Biography

Peter Markell has served on our board of directors since March 2022. Mr. Markell serves as chair of the Audit Committee and serves on the Nominating and Corporate Governance and the Technology and Information Security Committees. Mr. Markell currently serves as the Executive Vice President for Administration and Finance and CFO of Brown University Health, since 2023. Mr. Markell served as Executive Vice-President of Administration and Finance, CFO and Treasurer at Mass General Brigham and was a leading executive at Mass General Brigham (formally Partners HealthCare) from 1999 until his retirement in March 2021. His responsibilities included financial oversight of $14 billion in operations with assets of approximately $21 billion, and management within the areas of Corporate Finance, Research Management, Information Systems, Real Estate, Treasury and Human Resources. Prior to his roles as an executive at Mass General Brigham, Mr. Markell was an Audit Partner at Ernst & Young and served as Interim Chief Financial Officer at Massachusetts General Hospital. 

Mr. Markell serves on the Board of Trustees of Boston College previously serving as Chair. Mr. Markell also serves on the board of Eastern Bankshares, Inc. and is currently the chair of the audit committee; and on the board of directors of CodaMetrix. Mr. Markell is an executive in residence for the Health Management Academy. 

Mr. Markell is a Certified Public Accountant and earned his B.S./B.A. with concentrations in Accounting and Finance from Boston College.
