Dr. L. Thomas Richards, M.D.
L. Thomas Richards, M.D., joined our board of directors in July 2026. Dr. Richards serves on the Finance and Capital Allocation, Nominating and Corporate Governance, and Technology and Information Security Committees.
Dr. Richards most recently served as Chair of the Board of Directors of WittKieffer, an executive search and leadership advisory firm serving the healthcare, higher education, and life sciences sectors.
Throughout his career, Dr. Richards has led organizations at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and innovation. He previously served as Interim Chief Executive Officer of One Biomed, a molecular tools company, and Chief Executive Officer of TessArae, a molecular diagnostics company. He advises venture capital and private equity investors across the life sciences industry with a focus on emerging technologies and innovation-driven growth, and served as a Senior Advisor to Metis Genetics, One Biomed, and Nanomix. He also practiced academic medicine as an emergency physician and assistant professor at Stanford University and the University of California, San Francisco.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Richards was an investment banker in the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) groups of Lazard Frères, UBS, and SG Cowen.
Dr. Richards also has extensive governance experience serving on public, private, and nonprofit boards. He previously served on the board of directors of Cowen Group, Inc., a publicly traded financial services firm, and has served as a director of TessArae and One Biomed. He also currently serves on the board of two non-profit organizations, The World Telehealth Initiative and the Surfrider Foundation.
Dr. Richards received an M.D. from Harvard Medical School, an M.Phil. from the University of Sydney, and a B.A. from Yale University. He is a board-certified physician in Emergency Medicine.
